The Big Scam: Rabies Vaccination

Dogs Naturally magazine is delighted to add John Fudens to our list of contributors.  We know you will love his no-nonsense approach and he will be a great asset in teaching us the power of homeopathy and the dangers of many drugs and vaccines.  For those of you who are not familiar with John Fudens, here is a repost of one of his most popular articles.

I would like to give you, the reader, the truth about the so called required vaccinations, particularly rabies. There are two basic forms of law. One is the legal Constitutional and Common law that this country was founded on, and the other is “colorable” law passed by Administrative agencies/bureaucrats who have been given so called authority to pass laws. Black’s Law Dictionary 5th Edition defines colorable law as “That which is in appearance only, and not in reality, what purports to be, hence counterfeit, feigned, having the appearance of truth.” Yes, I study the law, am a paralegal, and have an extensive law library.

So any and all mandatory rabies vaccination programs are colorable law, in that they have been passed and mandated upon the pet owning public by certain vested interest groups. Who are these groups? First and foremost are veterinarians, in general, and veterinarian medical organizations. Second are the local animal control personnel, bureaucrats and politicians. What are their reasons? GREED, POWER AND CONTROL. Both these large powerful interest groups stand to benefit greatly by having rabies mandated by colorable law.

Veterinarians receive a large percentage of both their gross income and profit from vaccines given in the office. On average vaccines cost 60 to 95 cents per dose and are charged to the client at $15 to $25 per injection and substantially more in the large cities. Therefore, if veterinarians lobby to have a colorable law passed to give rabies vaccine every year that enhances their financial picture.

The veterinary medical societies, by working with other groups and area politicians, are rewarded by increased prestige and professional standing in the community. After all we are protecting you from the dreaded disease rabies, whether it exists or not. Some areas of the country are more enlightened and fortunate to have the rabies vaccine mandated every three years. You can be assured the rise of rabies is never taken into account as to whether the vaccine should be required or not. More on this later. The local government personnel benefit by extending more control over our lives, enriching the public treasury with fees, tags and fines, and giving the appearance that local government is doing something about animal populations, disease and risks to the public. Since rabies vaccines have been mandated, what county or area has seen less dog and cat bites, better animal control, more public awareness and educating of pet owning responsibility, better birth control of unwanted animals, less euthanasia of animals and decreased growth of animal control facilities?

These special groups and lobbies will use any argument, realistic or not, to justify their position. They are excellent at using the media to spread the lies and distortions. Examples: We have increased numbers of dogs biting people, pitbulls attacking and killing children are on the increase, more dogs and cats are running loose terrorizing neighborhoods, killing wildlife and other domestic stock, etc…ad nausaem. The only thing rabies vaccination is for is the protection from rabies virus, all other justifiers for the vaccine fall under human control and exist because there are a certain number of humans, connected to animals, who are irresponsible. Rabies is spread by the bite of an infected animal. The number of dog/cat bite cases in the U.S. that expose humans to rabies is as rare as shark attacks. This low incident rate has nothing to do with mandatory vaccination as the number of cases was low before the mandatory requirement.

Let me give you an example of Pinellas County, FL where my Affinity Clinic is located. I secured information from Pinellas Animal Control through the Freedom of Information Act. The record of animal control starts in 1964. From 1964 to 1978 there were zero cases of dog rabies in the county. Magically in 1978 rabies vaccine was mandated to be given every year and all dogs tagged and licensed. WHY? Well it seems four veterinarians, with animal control bureaucrats, pushed the county board of supervisors to pass a law mandating rabies vaccination every year. There were three local vets and one professor from the State Veterinary College who were behind this. It was interesting reading their letters pushing this law and the minutes of the county meeting. There was talk of dogs biting people (no actual figures given), dogs running loose, animal overpopulation, rabies on the increase in the U.S. (the increase was in wildlife, not dogs), etc.,etc. Not once was the issue discussed that there was no rabies in the county in dogs. To this date there still has not been one case of dog rabies, including the population of dogs whose owners, GOD BLESS THEM, do not vaccinate for rabies. Let’s go further.

From 1964 to 1989 there were no cases of rabies in cats in Pinellas County. Magically in 1989 a law was passed mandating rabies vaccination, tags and licenses for all cats. Same tired worn out excuses were used. Since the 1989 law there was one cat with rabies contracted from the bite of a bat. DO YOU READERS REALLY UNDERSTAND WHAT I HAVE JUST STATED? This is standard throughout the Country. No allowance is made for dogs/cats who never leave the house or yard, could never be exposed to rabies under any circumstances, or who are so ill, old or at the end of their life cycle that the rabies vaccine would throw them over the edge. No, all dogs and cats are treated the same because we have the bogeyman, rabies, stalking the streets waiting to strike unprotected dogs and cats.

Is there rabies in this Country? You bet. Are there areas of this Country that have rabies in their wildlife population and do some dogs/cats become infected? You bet. But let’s be realistic. Rabies has been on this earth long before man walked here and will be here long after we are gone. The only way to get rid of rabies is to remove mankind and the upper animals susceptible to the virus. Then maybe the virus will die off. It is a self limiting disease in the wild as it is fatal. So the virus has an extremely hard time spreading far and wide.

What is wrong with targeting those areas of the Country that have a problem with rabies using a realistic and specially formulated program that will protect the population at risk? Too logical and the special groups don’t make any money. Why not educate the pet owner to the risks and dangers and let them decide whether the immune system damage from rabies vaccination is greater or lesser than contracting the disease. We do have a God given Constitutionally secured right to LIFE, LIBERTY, AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS. Public health officials always have the right to mandate emergency health care procedures in case the public, in general does not respond properly. But why should every day, month and year be as if an emergency or crisis exists? And why should we have more and more control of our lives taken from us?

The vaccines, particularly rabies, are a political and economic scam being forced upon pet owners because they do not know the truth. Rabies, nationwide, is nowhere near the problem the veterinarians, media, politicians and bureaucrats would like you to believe. If you wish more of the truth go to your local city or county government building and look up the codes and statutes concerning vaccines and rabies. Get figures from local animal control for rabies in dogs, cats and wildlife in your area. Then you can start to fight back, take control of your life, and protect your pet from the only dreaded disease that is important–special interest groups pushing their program leading to vaccine induced damaged immune systems. Only you can set yourself free.

Current Veterinary Therapy by Kirk, the textbook bible for veterinarians in general, has an article on canine and feline vaccines by two researchers. Near the end of the article is a paragraph called Annual Vaccinations. It states “The practice of annual vaccinations lacks scientific validity or verification. There is no immunological requirement for annual vaccinations. The practice of annual vaccinations should be considered of questionable efficacy unless it is used as a mechanism to provide an annual physical examination or is required by law.” Sure, if we can’t manipulate you with annual vaccinations let’s pass a law to get you into the office. Nice trick!

Well reader, it is your choice. I can only hope to stimulate you to look and go further. You don’t have to take this suppression. Fight back. The only thing you have to lose is your freedom and you have already lost a great deal of it. I can fight with you but I can’t do it alone.

I wish I would have came accross all of these articals before I took my Lexie girl to the vet in the first place. I got her in April took her in for her boosters and such. May she got a booster and rabies, then when I took her in June she was to be spayed and another booster that’s it. Well come to find out they gave her another rabies vaccine. She started having digestive issues right after. Was able to feed her a bland diet with no problems. Then in September her digestive problems got uncontrolable. The vet told me it was Addison’s and that she would have to have a shot every month for the rest of her life. Ok I didn’t mide if I had to take her in every month as long as she would bounce back to the playful little girl I had. Took her in for her first shot, less than 24hrs later she had passed. All I can think about is how much I want to make them suffer. If anyone can give me some advice on where to go or what to do please let me know. Thank you

  2. hello DNM
I read in one onf my herbal books that if we have to vaccinate our dog to go trough custom or else
we bring a lemon cut in half and when the vaccine as been injected you rub the site of vaccine and if sould keep the vaccine from going in to the dog.
what do you thing of that?
    thanks xx

  3. I recently took my pitbull for rabies shot, keep in mind I had doubts and he was very healthy. . 3 to 4 days later he died. . During those 3 -4 days he wasn’t hungry. or wouldn’t realty be active. Now comes a Friday the 3 of May. My son finds him dead.what happen. I feel angry. My kids miss him .

  4. michelle

Thank you for this information. I will definitely check this out. I have 5 dogs and I will never go to a regular vet again if I can help it. I feel like I shouldn’t even be going through this nightmare.

  5. nancy

My dog was just attacked by a confirmed rabid skunk this past Sunday in our back yard. She is up to date on her rabies vaccine. I pray to God that it works! She is a very important member of our family and I don’t want to lose her,

    • Erika

Not sure why vets want annual vaccines other than money. Have your pets titered if you love them. Vaccines stay in your system for a long time. My bichon went blind 3 weeks after her annual shots, I wanted her titered and my vet talked me out of it. This is my 3rd bichon effected by shots 3 weeks after injection. When the vet wanted to give the shots to my latest bichon, I insisted on titers. He had enough rabies vaccine for an adult male in his system. He is only 20 lbs. They would have automatically given him another vaccine had I not objected. Please research shots. Why are we over immunizing our pets? Dr. Dodds is the leading researcher on this subject. Do your research. Your pets are worth it.

  6. RA

This article is irresponsible and filled with paranoid delusions. Some of the comments below are not much better.

The use of both traditional and western medicine is an integrative approach to pet health. There are many veterinarians that are out in the community practicing this type of medicine. Veterinarians are not out for power, greed, or money. If they were interested in these things they would have chosen another profession. A veterinarian has expenses such as staff, equipment, supplies, rent, their $100,000 or more education (8 years of education), and energy bills that must be covered by charging for vaccines and other products or services.

Just because your pet does not leave your yard doesn’t mean that these pets are at less risk. Racoons, skunks, bats, and foxes can carry rabies. These animals live in our backyards. Bats fly into houses. Racoons can make a home in your attic.

With every thing there is a balance. Over vaccination is unnecessary but vaccinating your pet is necessary. The only vaccine required by law is the Rabies vaccine. If your pet reacts to one vaccine it does not mean that it will have a negative reaction to another type of vaccine. Pet’s don’t have a reaction to their first vaccine. They must be exposed multiple times based on the science of how a body works.

Each vaccine type is made differently and can possibly have adjuvant (which is what causes the reaction). Ask your vet to not use adjuvanated vaccines on your pet when possible.

If you are concerned about their health then have their vaccine titer status checked. A high titer level does not make your pet immune to a disease but does prove that your pet has the antibodies to help fight off a possible infection.

If your pet is not vaccinated against rabies and bites someone or if someone accuses your pet of biting them, your pet could be euthanized and have its head cut off to be sent for testing. Vaccinations are for your pet’s health and for your own health. These are the things you should be thinking about when considering your pet’s vaccination status.

If your pet has an anaphylactic reaction or a medical condition that would make the vaccine a health risk your vet can write a waiver that can be submitted to your county or state. The waiver does not protect your pet from the law if they bite someone. A waiver does not equal vaccination.

This article is an example of why your pets should be vaccinated ( http://www.petmd.com/blogs/fullyvetted/2012/may/no_excuse_for_skipping_rabies_vaccines#.UWYI7ZOG2QM ) 32 dogs were euathanized due to exposure to a rabid fox. That’s just the tip of the iceberg.

PS – The Amish live natural lifestyles on farms where people don’t drink, smoke, nor are they exposed to excessive over the counter drug use. There are other factors that differ in their lifestyle than the use of vaccines.

    • Tom

Those 32 dogs were vaccinated. So what was the point of murdering them? What is the vaccine good for since the dogs were murdered anyway, even though they were vaccinated?

The vaccine is obviously worthless, makes your dog sick and makes big pharma rich. People are whipped into a frenzy by the word rabies and they want to kill every animal insight despite the fact that the animal had a rabies vaccine. Rabies is very rare, outbreaks are confined to small geographical areas, and are thus readily controllable. People are so easily ruled by fear, and that is the tool big companies use to get your money.

  7. Bob

Vacccinations every year, or two, three or more years may be excessive. The CDC and State,County,City authorities should be asked if there has ever been a case of rabies in a dog or cat that was vassinated just once, at aany time in its life, and if such case is verifiable.

  8. Darci

I have two dogs 2 and 9 years old. They were each vaccinated before they came to me when they were puppies. I have not vaccinated them since, and will not. I feed a species appropriate diet, use herbs, homeopathy, acupuncture and chiropractic as good health support. I’m happy to read this as it strengthens my position on the danger of vaccines and more specifically, over vaccinating. Thanks from me and my dogs here in Canada!

  9. Charles Hobden

My dog, Augie, had a bad condition that not run-of -the-mill vet could not heal. He was within a week of being put down, because his life was so miserable. He scratched himself constantly often drawing blood. His skin was very flaky and he smelled terrible. Fortunately, I found a local holistic vet that healed him, saving his life. I asked him what could have caused it, and he said probably it was reaction to his shots. I’ll never have another dog vaccinated, including the new one I just got. I lost Augie at the ripe old age of 16, by the way.

  10. Anne

    Laura,

That is simply not true. If you look at the figures on rabies, (the same goes for human diseases such as polio, smallpox, etc.) you will see that the vaccinations have no correlation with the decline of the disease. In fact, quite the opposite is true with the human vaccinations (Even Pasteur admitted his polio vaccine caused more deaths than the disease ever could have). Your fears have been given more weight than logic and facts. This is quite harmful to your animals. When you see a really bad reaction you will then wake up, only then it is too late and it’s already too late for your other animals who trust you to care for them properly.

How would a community be under more threat from rabies if people didn’t vaccinate? Even the CDC claimed several years ago there was no more canine rabies and we all know how far behind they are on things.

Your information is not correct and you are basing decisions on that which is dangerous for the health of your family and your pets. Hopefully you will never see a serious immediate reaction from vaccinations in your children, but I can promise you they are being damaged by them nonetheless. Do you even know what all is actually in them? I think not, or you would never be able to subject your children to that as you obviously are a caring parent. You must pay close attention to what “research” you are reading and who is profiting by that information. Follow the money, as it has been said….the BIG money.

Do not think that bats are the main carriers of rabies BECAUSE people vaccinate their pets. Do you even have a clue how many people do not and have not vaccinated for decades? I have never vaccinated my dogs and cats, ever and have lived out on the farm with all sorts of wildlife and am currently out in the desert surround by different species of wildlife.

It’s a scam and a very lucrative one at that.

Take the time to really consider what you are basing your decision on as clearly you have not thought it through,. It only takes some logic and common sense to understand this when given the facts and statistics over decades, that is the REAL statistics which can be found.

    JA

  11. Laura G

I have to respectfully disagree. When I was pregnant, I got sucked into the anti-vaccine debate around children and did mountains of research on it. The first point is that correlation does not prove causality. For example, lots of people think that vaccinations caused their children’s autism, but it is also the case that the onset of autism is detected at about the same age that children get vaccines.

Second: this article fails to mention is that the incidence of rabies in pets is so low PRECISELY because of the mandatory vaccination law against a disease that is 99.99% fatal (1 man lived recently).

Our communities will be under greater threat from rabies if people stop vaccinating their pets. PERIOD. According to the CDC, over the last 100 years, rabies in the United States has changed dramatically. More than 90% of all animal cases reported annually to CDC now occur in wildlife; before 1960 the majority were in domestic animals. The principal rabies hosts today are wild carnivores and bats. This is BECAUSE people vaccinate their pets.

I have three dogs and have rescued many others. I accept the risks when I agree to take preventative measures against disease because I am a responsible pet owner. While Americans have freedom of choice, I don’t believe I have a right to put my community at risk by letting my dogs be potential vectors for a virus that is fatal to humans.

    Respectfully.

    Laura G

    • Charles Hobden

I could write a book about this issue, but I’ll just say these two things:

      1) According to health professionals whom I trust, there never has been done a double blind, crossover test to see if ANY vaccinations work. As far as I know, no one has ever proved them wrong.

      2) Please explain why the Amish children never or almost never contract autism. Could it be because they are never vaccinated? No, it couldn’t possibly be that simple, right?

    • Debra V

I had two dogs live to the age of 18 years. They were precious to me, and though I could have had them put down before I did, I believe they continued to live because I was like the person whose dogs didn’t leave the yard and weren’t at large.

I also chose, after my daughter had SEVERE reactions to immunizations, to not go for the second round. I was chastised for that when pertussis broke out in NM. I was the one that had to keep her daughter home from school, after all she was the most vulnerable, not the one infecting, but I was the one being criticized. She stayed home, went to work with me at our gallery and never had a sympton.

When I visited the Health Service dept. for a completely different reason, assisting an older friend for a completely different reason, there were posters telling a parent how to make a claim when immunizations had either disabled a child or even had died from side affects of the immunization. That was my deciding factor. I signed every “conscientious form” for getting my daughter into school. I make sure every animal I have and the feral ones I neuter have the first round. After that, they are all healthy. The feral ones live longer than I would like sometimes.

We do not know all the facts, OBVIOUSLY, but we are knowing more and more about how we are being sold down the river, because of greed and power. We definitely have been and life only gets harder. We must maintain our intuitions and even endure when others call us crazy because of it…even those who SAY they are intuitives. We must trust ourselves and seek the like minded. Amen

    • Bill Pickersgill

Dear Laura : Show me 1 child that’s autistic and has never been vaccinated, take me to the parent’s you can’t, because there are no cases of an autistic unvaccinated child HELLO!!! ,THE CORRELATION IS UNDENIABLE autism was unheard of untill multiple vaccs it’s a simple cause and effect and as Charles said look at the Amish !!! and you don’t understand, the chance of your poor dog getting a bad reaction is way greater than the dog getting rabies ,why, because dogs can’t metabolize drug’s in the 1st place anything like humans can, the God of the Bible made us special lPs139:14 or way above animals in our ability to get rid of toxins drug’s etc!!! when we take in a chemical or drug our bodies can get rid of 90 some % a dog is the opposite, 90% stays in his body , animals are super sensitive to forein substances, as blood samples in a study of 1000 dogs randomly showed the level of chemicals etc! was alarming from plastic bowels they eat out of to everything that’s why no one should ever vaccinate there animal .

      Sincerely
      Bill

  12. Andréa

There is always something that can be done. Get your vet to write a waiver. If your vet won’t , do you really want to take your pet to some one that cares so little for your dog or cat? If your pet has a reaction to even one vaccine then every vaccination will be worse until the vaccine causes death.
Call the municipality and tell them your situation, every town I have lived in has been extremely understanding that my dog’s next vaccine may kill him. In reality they just wanted my dog licensed and didn’t really care about rabies (even though that was their written policy).
If the laws harm then change them, find other people in your area with the same issue, call your representatives
Talk to people and you may find that money is not what drives everyone.
If nothing else stand up for your pet.

  13. Gloria

I too live in California and cannot get tags for my pets without a rabies vaccine. I no longer give other vaccines every year only every three years. That being said I will do titers on both pets before there next vaccines. My dogs never leave my back yard and when they do they are with me at all times, the odds of them getting bit by something and getting rabies is zero, but what can I do the law is the law

  14. Max Douglas

Very well written and researched article. I had stopped getting the “mandatory” vaccinations some time ago after reading that they can do more harm than good. There are a lot of “products” we use on our pets that we would not use on our selves so why take that chance?

  15. Darla DiPietro

Everything I have read here makes sense and may even explain some ongoing health issues with my own dogs. Unfortunately, I am stuck between a rock and a hard place. The State and County in which I live requires that we license our dogs, failure to do so may result in the County taking our dogs away from us. In order to obtain a licenses proof of vaccination must be presented. It’s a tough choice. I wish these studies would be more publicized and more Veterinarians come forward and prove that these boosters are not necessary.

Our beagle has to be pre-medicated prior to boosters, to avoid an allergic reaction. The first time this occured we nearly lost her. Thankfully, we got her back to the Vets in time to have them give her a shot to bring her out of the reaction.

Our Cocker Spaniel has periodic siezures, not frequent, but unexplained. I am going to pay closer attention to see if there is any pattern with these siezures and his boosters.

We are staunch supporters of the AVMF and hope that they will continued their good work.

    • camille

if you do a little research on this matter you will find that you can get a letter from a vet stating that the vaccine is damaging to the health of you dog. i.e. exemption!!! my state/county “requires a lenience also, do i have one for my pet… no… it is my right… i don’t need permission … look up license in the black’s law dictionary 5th or 9th addition ONLY!

  16. Sharon

Thank you for this article! My husband and I truly believe a rabies vaccine killed our precious Yorkie last year (he was only 1-1/2). We have recently adopted a new one and are NOT NOT NOT NOT getting him the rabies vaccine!

    • Kimberly

So, what do you do when you apply for a medical exemption and the health department denies it? Now I’m required to give my 4 pound chihuahua the rabies shot or risk fines and having her forcibly removed from my home……Any thoughts?

      • cindy

We had a little chihuahua when I was growing up. This little girl was a house dog and never left the yard. My parents sent the county a letter telling them that the little dog had died. The county never again sent letters telling us that our Chihuahua needed her annual rabies vaccine.

    • michelle

      Sharon,
Hi. If you don’t mind me asking, how did your dog die?
I have a Jack Russell Terrier, whom is a year and a half and just had his vaccinations including rabies a month ago. Two weeks ago, he had his first grand mal seizure lasting over 5 minutes. It could have killed him. Then two days ago, he had another grand mal seizure and it lasted about 1 1/2 minutes. I am convinced it was his rabies vaccination although the vet said he is now an epileptic. He was fine and full of life before the shots. I never knew they were dangerous until doing research. I just spent nearly $250 on detox meds hoping it will help him. I am desperate, I cannot accept he is just an epileptic now. I was suppose to bring him in to the vet tomorrow for blood work, but sadly, I don’t trust the vet at this point.

      • Michelle, a good homeopathic vet will help you! Please consider going to the AVH at http://www.theavh.org to find a homeopathic vet. If there isn’t one in your area, many of them do phone consults and this is easy to do with homeopathy. Don’t fall back on drugs to treat a problem that was already caused by pharmaceutical products!

  17. Heather

I live in Florida, and the animal control was called on me for my dogs barking. I have avoided getting tags for my little shih-tzus, since i do not believe in vaccinating period. Now the county wants me to go get my little babies rabies shots and tags. I do not mind getting them tags, but it is against my conscious to do the rabies. What can I do to legally avoid getting this done to my little pets? Please help

  18. In some states, you can order the rabies vaccine and administer it yourself.

  19. jessica smith

Can you get the vaccine and just say you gave it to him?? How would they be able to prove you didnt? Do they do a blood test? I have an 11 week old puppy and I want to avoid the shot! Not sure though if my state would be one of the ones that would allow me to give myself…

  20. jessica smith

I just looked this up and apparently my State requires that a Vet sign off on the Rabies vaccine. So what would giving it yourself do?
